You Probably Know This Moment
You know what you want.
Then someone reacts.
A pause. A look. A change in tone.
And suddenly you are not thinking about what you wanted anymore. You are thinking about how they feel.
Are they disappointed? Was that selfish? Should I explain? Maybe I should just do it.
Sometimes you change your mind because something genuinely changed.
Other times, you offer to change your plans because you feel guilty.
Before you do, ask: Do I want to change my plans, or do I want the guilt to go away?
Hear Yourself First is designed to help you catch that moment sooner.
What You’ll Practice Over 5 Days
Each day gives you one short lesson and one simple practice you can use in real life.
Day 1: Catch the Automatic Yes
Notice how quickly your attention moves toward what everyone else needs, wants, or might feel before you have checked with yourself.
The goal is not to change anything yet.
Just to catch the moment.
Day 2: Have I Checked With Myself Yet?
Practice The Pause Before the Pour™. One breath before the automatic answer.
You are not trying to make yourself say no.
You are just giving yourself a minute before you answer.
Day 3: Hear Your Own Answer
Start noticing the little answers you usually skip over.
I need more time.
I actually want to stay home.
I would rather do something else.
I want to help.
You do not have to act on every answer.
You are practicing hearing yourself before you decide.
Day 4: When Guilt Gets Loud
Notice what happens after you make a choice and guilt shows up.
You will practice asking:
Did I actually do something wrong, or am I uncomfortable because someone else may not like my answer?
Those are not always the same thing.
Day 5: What Did I Know Before They Reacted?
Their disappointment can matter. Their feelings can matter.
Their disappointment alone does not mean you did something wrong.
Over these five days, you’ll practice noticing what you want before answering and recognizing when guilt makes you question it.You are learning to include yourself too.
This Is for You If…
You say yes quickly, then wonder later what you actually wanted.
You can feel someone else’s disappointment before they even say much.
You replay conversations and question whether you were selfish, too much, or should have handled it differently.
You know how to care for everyone else, but sometimes lose track of what is true for you.
You are not looking to care less.
You just want to be part of your own decisions too.
You do not have to figure everything out today.
